2015 Field Day

2015 Field Day Logo from ARRL

Saturday & Sunday

June 27 & 28

Where:  Livingston County Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

When:  June 27th, 28th

The Plan:  Begin setting up shelters and antennas on Friday afternoon also related to another Klub event on Saturday at Noon already.

Objective:  To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries.

Radio Bands:  Any Amateur Radio band except 12, 17, 30 and 60 Meters.

Other Information:  This is an Emergency Communications Excersize.  Various County, City, Village and Township elected officials as well as Police and Fire Chiefs have been invited to stop by during the Field Day Excersize to gain a better understanding or just witness how Livingston County is including Amateur Radio in its emergency response plans and to see the effectiveness of the technology and people.

  • Caribbean Emergency and Weather Net was Activated for Tropical Storm Harvey

The Caribbean Emergency and Weather Net (CEWN) activated this week on 3.815 MHz for Tropical Storm Harvey, located in the Eastern Caribbean. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami is advising interests in the Caribbean Sea and adjacent land areas of eastern Central America and northern South America to monitor the storm’s progress.

“The storm has gone over Barbados,” an August 18 post from...

  • Canada Proposes Implementing a 60-Meter Band While Retaining Discrete Channels

An Industry Canada (IC) regulatory consultation (proceeding) aimed at implementing the changes from the 2015 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15) could lead to the allocation of a 60-meter band in Canada in addition to the five discrete channels that are congruent with those in the US. IC is seeking comments on this and other revisions that take WRC-15 into account.

    “The consultation is...

  • The K7RA Solar Update

Several readers pointed out those averages for the various indicators we track were all wrong last week. Average daily sunspot number was 12.1 instead of 5, although the rest of the text in the bulletin was correct. Likewise, average daily solar flux was 73.2 instead of 71.

And average daily planetary A index was 11.3 instead of 5, and mid-latitude A index was really 6.9 instead of 6.

    The current...
